Simple QR code payments

QR payments are cashless payments that allow you to transfer money from your account to the payee’s account by scanning a QR code. You can continue to make QR payments in the same way you are used to. The new feature is that, where the payment is made to a merchant, the payment will always be instant and the payment details cannot be edited. Each such transaction will be automatically matched with the specific payment recorded in the merchant’s cash register.

1. The merchant generates a QR code.
2. To initiate the payment, log in to your banking app and select the Payments option. Use the QR code scanning function or upload the QR code from your saved images. The payment details will be filled in automatically and you only need to confirm the payment.
3. The payment will then be transferred to the merchant’s account.
4. The merchant’s terminal will display whether the payment has been successful.

You can also initiate the payment by taking a photo of the QR code using your mobile phone camera or scanner, after which you will be redirected to the login screen of your banking app. If you hold accounts with multiple banks, the system will automatically redirect you to one of them. In such case, you may not be able to choose the bank from which the payment will be made. If you wish to make the payment from a specific bank, for example VÚB, we recommend initiating the payment by logging in to your banking app in line with the procedure above.

Yes. If you have enabled push notifications for transactions on your account held with VÚB, you will be informed immediately by push notification if the payment is successful, in the same way as for your other payments.
At the same time, the payment result will also be displayed on the merchant’s terminal.

Yes. An internet connection is required in order to confirm and execute the payment.

If you are unable to complete the payment, we recommend first taking the following steps:

• check your internet connection,
• make sure that you have sufficient funds in your account,
• check your instant payment limits / daily limit settings,
• try to make the payment again.

In the event of any discrepancies, you may submit a standard complaint via the Contact service or at any VÚB branch.

Cash payments will continue to be available as before. Under the new rules, merchants will be required to offer customers the option of cashless payment via QR code or POS terminal for payments of EUR 1 or more.

No. QR payments to merchants are only available to clients who hold an account with a Slovak bank.
