The foreign exchange market is part of the financial market. It allows the mutual exchange of individual foreign currencies, i.e. import payments, export collections as well as other operations that affect the domestic currency exchange rate in relation to foreign currencies.

The foreign exchange market is a non-term spot market (currency conversion, foreign exchange arbitrage) or futures market (swaps, forwards, futures, options). The foreign exchange market also serves as insurance against foreign exchange risks (hedging).
