VUB is the second largest bank in Slovakia and the only universal bank, which holds the licence that enables to provide the entire range of banking services to the general public, corporate and institutional customers.
The bank´s offer focuses on mortgage and consumer loans, deposit and payment products and services, corporate banking and foreign trade financing.

The bank offers leasing (VUB Leasing), pension savings (VUB Generali), consumer finance (Consumer Finance Holding) or factoring (VUB Factoring) through its subsidiaries and affiliated companies. The bank also mediates insurance products.

VUB provides its services through an extensive sales network, which includes 182 retail branches, 8 Magnifica centres and 32 corporate branches, designated for small and medium enterprises. Moreover, VUB bank operates 11 mortgage centres, specialised in comprehensive housing finance services.

Chief Executive Officer

Alexander Resch became the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Management Board on 1 October 2013. During the period from 2008 to 2012 he held the position of Member of the Management Board and Chief Risk Officer of the Bank. Prior to that, was Alexander Resch engaged with VUB’s sales finance subsidiary Consumer Finance Holding in the position of Vice-Chairman of the Management Board.

Alexander Resch returned to Slovakia from Albania where he was managing Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania. Alexander Resch has worked for Intesa Sanpaolo Group throughout his entire career. He started in Bankhaus Löbbecke (Berlin), then part of Intesa Sanapolo Group, where he was responsible for Planning, Controlling and Risk Management. He arrived to Slovakia in 2004 to coordinate the acquisition of the TatraCredit Group by VUB Bank, which was subsequently transformed into Consumer Finance Holding. Alexander Resch studied economics at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and he also holds an Executive MBA degree of University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management - and Vienna University of Economics and Business.

Roberto Vercelli

Deputy Chief Executive Officer

Roberto Vercelli has been a member of the Management Board and Deputy CEO of VÚB, a.s. since 1 November 2017.

He is responsible primarily for regulatory and support departments of the bank. Prior to accepting the DCEO function at VÚB, a.s. for the last year and a half he was managing in the International Subsidiary Banks Division of Intesa Sanpaolo the credit program for international subsidiaries and was responsible for monitoring projects in the area of risks, credit and accounting within the Group. He has been working for Intesa Sanpaolo since 1981.

He started his professional career in Turin and in the past years he held several managing positions, among the other he headed the internal audit of Group’s subsidiaries and acted as the Chief Executive Officer of Alex Bank in Egypt.

Furthermore he managed a special coordination office in Pravex Bank in Ukraine, where he was also a permanent invitee to the discussions of the Management Board and a member of several internal committees. He graduated from the G.A. Giobert Institute in Asti, Italy – High School Diploma in Accounting Studies.

In October 2014 Antonio Bergalio became a member of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer in October 2014. Until then, Antonio Bergalio was a member of the Management Board and CFO of the Ukrainian Pravex Bank, member of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group. He was in charge of reporting, planning and controlling, treasury, investment banking and procurement. Before that he worked as a manager in several banks and consultancy firms focusing on finance. Antonio Bergalio studied economics at the University of Genoa. He was also a member of the Committee of Italian Entrepreneurs in Ukraine between 2012 – 2014.

Alexander Resch became the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Management Board on 1 October 2013. During the period from 2008 to 2012 he held the position of Member of the Management Board and Chief Risk Officer of the Bank. Prior to that, was Alexander Resch engaged with VUB’s sales finance subsidiary Consumer Finance Holding in the position of Vice-Chairman of the Management Board.

Executive Director for Corporate Banking, Member of the VUB Management Board

Andrej Viceník became a member of the Management Board and Head of the Corporate and SME Divison and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of VÚB Leasing, a. s. in December 2017. He joined VÚB bank in 2006. Before his appointment he had been the Head of Corporate Customer Department until 2010 and later the Head of SME Department untill November 2017.

He worked in Executive positions in Česká poisťovňa, Zürich poisťovňa and HVB Bank Slovakia. Andrej Viceník is a graduate of University of Economics in Bratislava and holds an Executive MBA degree from the Webster University as well.

In February 2012, VUB Supervisory Board appointed Mr. Peter Magala to the position of a new member of the VUB Management Board and Executive Director of the Risk Management Division where he replaces Mr. Alexander Resch who resigned to his positions. Before his appointment to the new position, Mr. Magala worked in the position Director of VUB Internal Audit and Control Department. Having graduated from the University of Economics in Bratislava, Faculty of National Economy, he started his career in company Deloitte & Touche, Bratislava. In Deloitte & Touche he reached Senior Auditor level working on IAS and statutory audits, due diligence projects and other special projects focused mostly on banking clients, coincidently including VUB as one of his major clients.

Peter Magala gained his further banking experience as Relationship Manager at the Financial Institutions department in Citibank, Bratislava where he was working during years 2002 – 2004. His main clients were from the consumer finance and insurance business. Since 2004 he continued in his banking career in Tatrabanka / Raiffeisen International mostly on the international IT project in Maribor (Slovenia) as Senior Business Analyst responsible for the accounting area.

In 2006 Mr. Magala started working for VUB. First as Head of Corporate Credit Control Sub-department within Internal Auditing Department then from 2007 as the Director of Internal Audit and Control Department having responsibility for internal auditing of the whole VUB Group. Peter Magala holds internationally recognized professional qualification in risk management – Financial Risk Manager (FRM), and he is a Fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).

In 2014 Peter Novák became member of the Management Board and Chief Operating Officer. Peter Novák has come to VÚB from the headquarters of Austrian Raiffeisen Bank International AG where he worked as a Managing Director for International Operations and IT. He was in charge of operations management and IT in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, in Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York and London. Before that, he had worked in the top management of several important companies in banking and telecommunication sector in Slovakia and abroad. He graduated from the Technical University of Košice.

Martin Techman has become a member of the Management Board of VÚB and the Head of the Retail Banking Division on 1st March 2015. He came to VÚB from Česká sporiteľňa, where he was the head of the distribution network.

In VÚB, Martin Techman is in charge of the management of the retail branch network and client relationships, bank products for natural persons and small businesses, payment cards and private banking.

Martin Techman has been concentrating on the field of banking and finance since 1994. He started to work in company Multiservis, later acquired by GE Capital. He worked in several key positions there: consumer financing manager, head of products development, head of third parties‘ products and manager of mortgage loan sales. Between 2004 and 2005, he was the head of development and administration of products in VÚB in charge of retail products management, mortgage centers network and external sales. From 2005 he worked in Česká sporiteľňa as a director of business development division and from 2011 he was managing the branches network in the Czech Republic.

Martin Techman is a Nottingham Trent University graduate, he was awarded an MBA degree in Business Administration (Executive MBA).

Intesa Sanpaolo Group

The Italian banking group Intesa Sanpaolo, with its headquarters based in Turin and Milan, is the majority shareholder of VÚB, holding a 97.03 % stake. It was formed in January 2007 by the merger of Sanpaolo IMI and Banca Intesa. Both banks were already key players in the Italian market and had contributed to the consolidation process of the Italian banking industry.
