About the Majority Shareholder
The Italian banking group Intesa Sanpaolo, with its headquarters based in Turin and Milan, is the majority shareholder of VÚB, holding a 96.76 % stake. It was formed in January 2007 by the merger of Sanpaolo IMI and Banca Intesa. Both banks were already key players in the Italian market and had contributed to the consolidation process of the Italian banking industry.
The Intesa Sanpaolo Group is the leading provider of financial products and services to both households and businesses in Italy and one of the top banking groups in Europe.
The Group also has strategic operations in Central-Eastern European markets and the Mediterranean basin. In fact, through its local subsidiary banks, the Intesa Sanpaolo Group ranks first in Serbia, second in Albania, Croatia and Slovakia, third in Hungary, fifth in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt, sixth in Slovenia. The Group is also present in Ukraine, Russian Federation and Romania.
Intesa Sanpaolo offers a wide range of products and services from classical banking products to more sophisticated services such as portfolio management, life insurance, mergers and acquisitions, and structured finance available to both, retail and SME clients, large corporates, multinational companies and financial institutions.
The intention of Intesa Sanpaolo in Slovakia includes further development of VÚB as a universal bank, enhancement of its services to corporate clients, extension of retail services on a franchising basis, and development of sophisticated activities in capital markets. Focus will be particularly put on the development of new products for clients, more intensive marketing communication, and increase clients’ access to bank’s products and services. The key objective will be to build long-term mutually advantageous and comprehensive relationships with the bank’s clients.
Intesa Sanpaolo also plans further enhancement of its position in the Czech market, in order to adequately represent the interests of the whole Group, with major focus on corporate clients.
